Running Into Ideas

Beauty exists even in the most ordinary of places.

Out running, listening to the classic that is, ‘The Stand,’ by Stephen King, the extended version, all forty-eight hours of it, random ideas pop into my head as the fall of America to Captain Trips unfolds. It might be too soon for many to revisit this sprawling epic, and I get that. It’s not long enough since we faced our own stands. But on this cold winter morning, I am riding along with ‘Poke’ Freeman and Lloyd Henreid, wishing I wasn’t, but somehow not getting out the backseat of the Lincoln Continental as they drive hard across Arizona.

My love for Stephen King rarely wanes.

Maybe one day, he will be out walking his dog, listening to one of my stories, haunted by

The Red Marsh King.

And finally, as another world burns in my mind’s eye, echoing a not so distant past, it’s hard not to appreciate the beauty present in this one.
