Dead Lines

In the life before, the time past …

… back when I did something I thought I was good at, something I knew how to do, I was pretty good with deadlines. Okay, I didn’t meet every one, but my time to completion and my responsiveness to requests were reasonable considering how busy I was and the excessive demand I faced.

However, in my life as an independent author, deadlines are a bit like the dead lights in Stephen King’s ‘It.’ I stare into them and they paralyse me. I am lost, all time is immaterial, and any date is fictional.

So it is with great regret I have to admit defeat attempting to complete the second book by the 21st December 2024. I am somewhere in the region of 80,000 words into the second more serious draft, but there is no way I’m going to complete it in the next five days.

So dear twelve, maybe thirteen readers, you will have to wait a little longer to find out what happens next in Lauren and Jake’s lives. Hopefully not too long.

My revised completion date is the 31st of March 2025.

Let’s hope I don’t get caught in any more dead lights.
