Unexpectedly Sharp

Imogen and the Knife, The Pink Room, Yes, Neighbourhood Festival 2024

Red (is my colour) …

Again, in no particular order, the eighth of ten great albums or E.P.s I discovered last year.

Well, Red is maybe not Lauren’s favourite,  and I am not so sure this would have been on her playlist, but one for the author is not too much to ask.

Imogen caught me by surprise, a rare gig attended alone, in the Pink Room. On stage with a Nord Keyboard, and two guys, one playing sax, the other horn. Seemed an odd combination but turned out to be exquisite. Paired down, and paired back, the sound was simply beautiful.

‘Some Kind Of Love’ is an unusual confection, soft on the outside, hard in the centre, and has a taste as subtle and complicated as a kiss.

Listen. Judge for yourselves.
