Working on the Cover

I’ve put it off for too long. Procrastination. Avoidance. Call it what you will, but we all face it. The deadline for the second book is approaching and it’s about time I started designing the cover.

Sometimes you can see an image forming in your head, step-by-step, emerging out of the creative darkness. When that happens, it feels easy. Okay. Everyone has a view about the end product, but you know, the outcome is better than your best.

All you creatives out there know magic doesn’t happen often, hardly ever, and you never cherish or respect it enough.

Most times, you’re snatching at an absence of ideas. I choose either to play with pencil, or fiddle with Photoshop elements until something emerges, thinking there has to be an easier way. Hours pass. Days. Weeks. Nothing but dross. You have to persevere. Believe. It’s all you can do.

From desperation to end product. It might help you. It might demystify the whole process. It might only confirm you know more than I do. If so, enjoy feeling smug, please do, but then help a fellow indie author – comment, contact, and let me know what I can do to improve.
